The Doctrines of Grace (Christian Worldview)

This title will be my thoughts about a book I am reading by the same title (parantheses above are mine) authored by James Montgomery Boice and Philip Graham Ryken.

Here is quote from the book with a portion from Abraham Kuyper that I love:

The Christian view of the world includes an awareness of the pervasiveness of sin, which corrupts every human endeavor. At the same time, Kuyper’s belief in divine sovereignty persuaded him that God has a purpose and plan for the secular world as well as the sacred community. God allows the goodness of creation to shine even in places where the lordship of Jesus Christ is not yet acknowledged. This goodness is the product of His common grace, by which He maintains human existence, relaxes His curse against sin, arrests the process of decay and thus allows human culture to develop. To quote Kuyper’s most famous statement: “In the total expanse of the human life there is not a single square inch of which Christ, who alone is sovereign, does not declare, ‘That is mine’.” (page 56)

The beginning of life

I am amazed at life, when it begins, the author of such life and the fragility of it. Oh, my! Who can look around and not see design, order, method and consistency of a Master builder? It is the fool!

The picture is of my son, ten weeks from delivery in a pike breech position in my wife’s womb. Who put him there? What intent is behind his life? What purpose? He provokes the thought – When did life begin?

We read clearly in Genesis 1:1, “In the beginning God…” That is when life began. Not that God was created but “In the beginning God created the Heavens and the earth.” This my son will learn and appreciate, in order to appreciate ALL of life!

I praise the God who put life in my wife’s womb. This is the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and the God of Yeshua HaMashiach who sent Him to die for a dying world +2K years ago.

The Deconstruction of the Family – satan’s plan

Karl Marx wrote, “The education of all children, from the moment that they can get along without a mother’s care, shall be in state institutions at state expense.” His student Vladimir Ilyich Lenin concurred, “Give me four years to teach the children and the seed I have sown will never be uprooted.”

I don’t see any difference from this quote and the contemporary operating picture of the American Education system. What is more, parents, who’s prime and privileged duty is the raising of godly seed are plucking their children out of the rich soil of family and planting them in the rocky soil of institution.

Why? Several excuses abound such as, both parents work, no time, no experience. But bottom line – most are slaves to the world and its processes. Now, before you slay the messenger, let me lump myself in with this crowd. Both my wife and I work. We have two children. We have debt enslaving us to another master. Debt is a vicious thing with cruel taskmasters. So, if you mean to throw rocks, just remember, “those without sin cast the first one.” So, I am no different than the majority. I desire to be free from this world and have “no other debt than the continual debt to love others,” and be enslaved to Jesus. I’m not sure the way out but a rough road of sweat, tears, blood and fighting.

My goal is simply the honor of Jesus and that He might win the reward of His suffering through me. That includes the raising of my children in my home with my wife at the helm with me. So often my wife texts me after dropping off our firstborn at the day care. Yesterday it read, “my heart is breaking as I had to walk away from playground with our son screaming…So SUCKS!!”

May the Lord grant mercy and help in this regard for His lowly and miserable servants,
