The issue of christ-mas

Bear with me a brief moment to build the case for what I am about to write. It is with a heavy heart, bewildered by the tide of iniquity in this world and the many whose love of truth has grown cold, that i speak.

For several years it has been my privilege to bring the preached word of God to the Union Rescue Mission in Little Rock, Arkansas. This is a homeless shelter. Since its inception it has been a not-for-profit corporation and has had full say in the message proclaimed there. About two years ago, a homeless artist came through and painted a mural behind the pulpit (in the chapel area). This mural was depicting Christ’s suffering and resurrection. It was really well done with great detail. See below for a couple snapshots of this mural. Keep in mind these photos were not taken to capture the mural.

In this mural were four scenes. The last scene, peculiarly hidden, is the “empty tomb.” In early 2011, the State of Arkansas started negotiations with URM to obtain the building. The States desire was to continue the homeless service but maybe they had in mind to “do it better.” That is just my assumption. So, in late 2011 the acquisition finalized and renovation began. As you can see in the first photo above some of the ceiling coming down (The time of this photo was October/November 2012).

Shortly after the above photos were taken we were back again to preach only this time the scene behind the pulpit was different.

And then, my last time preaching there for 2012 the scene had changed yet more.

Can you see the christmas tree? The new owners painted over the mural of Christ and replaced it with a christmas tree. I brought in my cross and put it in a tree stand and placed it in front of the heathen tree.
If you were wise you could discern what is happening here. Can you? “Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear The Lord, and depart from evil” (Proverbs 3:7). This is the deception of the ages hidden in full sight that all with eyes may see. “And Jesus said, ‘For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see: and that they which see might be made blind” (John 9:41).
Some might see nothing wrong here and fancy the tree, thinking christ is contained therein, either by motive or by tradition. But have you not read that it is God’s Word that judges the thoughts and intents of the heart (Hebrews 4:12) but the Word of God becomes “none effect through your tradition” (Mark 7:13). As it regards the tree, “ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God” (Luke 16:15). In other words, “God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; and base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: that no flesh should glory (boast) in His presence” (1 Corinthians 1:27-29). The christ-mas is the wisdom of man, and is quite logical in the flesh but it still has no reality of Christ Himself. This is just as scripture says, “having a form of godliness but denying the power thereof…” Having any ‘form’ of the real thing still guarantees one eternal damnation because the real thing was missed entirely.

The ‘christmas’ season in america finds three things just like they did in Christ’s real birth:

1) No room for Him in the inn

2) No room for Him in the heart

3) No heart prepared to seek The Lord, meaning one humbled in full fear that this King has both power to kill and to damn the soul to hell. Has He bid you approach His throne or do you come obtusely, full of prideglory and boasting?

The issue of christmas is the issue of our lives – that we would rather have trifles than truth; vanity than virtue; the form of christ than the actual Christ.

Has Christ been born in you?
